Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro brings Google Play. Check the accounts, storage and shipping date

Amazon's announced UK shipping date has now passed; actual deliveries remain unverified. Before choosing one, separate the app store from account access, the Pro's storage from its accessories, and Alexa's screen sharing from ordinary setup.

Amazon's Alexa Tablet 12 Pro arrives with a change that matters more than another processor boast: Android and the Google Play Store. That expands the documented route to apps, but it does not answer every buying question. With Amazon's announced UK shipping date now past, separate what runs on the tablet, which accounts you need and what you are allowing Alexa to see.

Three things to know

  • Amazon announced the range on 8 October; its stated UK shipping date was 19 October. PING has not verified actual deliveries.
  • Google Play access is not proof that every app, subscription or service works for your account and country.
  • The 12 Pro's storage, separately sold accessories and optional Alexa screen sharing deserve separate decisions.

A launch announcement, not a delivered device

The 8 October announcement names Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 8. Amazon says they run Android with Google Play access. It announced shipping plans for 14 October in the United States, Mexico and Canada, then 19 October in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Both dates are now past. These are the company's announced dates, not delivery results observed by PING. TechCrunch's same-day coverage brought the range to our attention; its reporting and images are not a PING hardware review.

Two sign-ins answer different questions

Amazon's setup guide distinguishes Google access from Amazon access. It recommends signing into Google for Play Store and Google services, and Amazon for experiences including Alexa and Kindle. It also says initial setup can be completed without Wi-Fi, while apps and some features need an internet connection. Do not read that limited setup option as a promise of offline Alexa or unrestricted access to streaming services.

Our suggested check is to list the five applications you actually rely on, rather than count the store's entire catalogue. Confirm each publisher's requirements, your existing subscription and the account region you intend to use. For work or study, include document export and any organisation-managed sign-in. Store access alone cannot settle those separate requirements. PING has not installed these apps on the new tablets or verified their regional availability.

The 12 Pro's storage decision belongs before checkout

The 12 Pro developer specification, updated 8 October, lists Android 16, 128GB or 256GB internal storage and external storage as 'n/a'. That is model-specific evidence, not a statement about every Amazon tablet. Its listed display is 2800 by 1840 pixels. None of those entries proves how well a particular editor, game or video service will perform.

Before choosing a capacity, make an inventory of files and downloads you expect to keep locally, and decide which you can reliably retrieve elsewhere. Ask the seller to identify the exact configuration on the order. If a workflow depends on removable storage, do not assume an older Fire tablet's expansion options carry over to the 12 Pro. Obtain an explicit answer before paying, rather than turn a familiar brand name into an unstated specification.

Screen sharing is a permission, not a setup chore

Amazon says Alexa's On-Screen Intelligence is off by default, requires an intentional opt-in and shows a visual indicator when active. It describes controls to disable the feature in Settings. That is the supplier's account of the controls, not PING's privacy audit. Our practical suggestion is to leave screen access off until you have a specific use for it, then check what is visible before sharing a screen containing someone else's messages or work material.

Price the usable setup, not just the tablet

Amazon's setup help lists a USB-C cable but no charger in the box. It identifies the Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard as separately sold accessories compatible with the 12 Pro. Build your comparison around the equipment you need, not accessories pictured beside the product. Check the charging requirements against the adapter you own and the seller's actual bundle; this is a purchasing checklist, not a recommendation for an untested charger.

For readers in Lagos, Nairobi or Johannesburg, the announcement's named shipping markets do not establish local sales or service access. For London buyers, a UK shipping plan still does not answer every account or subscription question. Ask separately about delivery, returns, warranty and any paid service you need. We have not verified African rollout, country-specific Alexa+ entitlement or a software-support deadline for this range.

The useful change is a documented Android app route, not a reason to skip the details that determine everyday use. Match the exact tablet to your accounts, files and permissions before treating it as a replacement. Find more device explainers on PING's Gadgets desk.

Checked 12 October 2026. Discovery: TechCrunch's article published 8 October at 13:00 UTC. Primary evidence: Amazon's announcement published 8 October at 12:55 UTC; its Alexa Tablet 12 Pro developer specification, last updated 8 October; and its undated setup help. Announcement, access and the historical shipping plans are distinct. The stated 14 October North American and 19 October UK/selected European shipping dates remain Amazon's plans, not observed deliveries or a new 12 October launch. No African availability, UK price, warranty, all-app compatibility, Alexa+ country/subscription entitlement or software-support deadline is inferred. Only the 12 Pro's developer specification supports the no-external-storage statement. PING has not independently tested performance, battery life, security or privacy.
