Firefox's new form and page tools start in US and Canada

The English-language desktop Smart Window beta can fill forms from chosen tabs and watch pages for changes. UK and African readers should treat the launch as a preview, with local availability still unannounced.

A browser that watches a shop page and a browser that fills a job application need different kinds of supervision. Mozilla has added both capabilities to the Firefox Smart Window beta. The useful question is what information each tool uses, what it can actually do, and which decisions remain yours.

Mozilla announced the additions on 27 October. They are available in English in the desktop Smart Window beta in the US and Canada, with more markets promised in the coming months. That is not a UK or African launch announcement. For readers in London, Lagos or Nairobi, this is an explanation of the new tools and their limits, rather than instructions to expect them in today's browser. Mozilla's announcement

Choose the source before accepting the answer

The form tool takes context from open tabs you select. A portfolio or professional profile can supply information for an application, while the browser proposes entries for supported text fields. You review the source tabs, select or deselect them, and inspect the suggested answers before filling the form. Mozilla says Smart Window does not submit the form for you. Form-filling help

There is an important data distinction. Mozilla says information from selected source pages is shared with Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite for this feature. Choosing a different model for the Smart Window chat does not change that form-filling model. Ordinary saved autofill details, such as a name and address, remain a separate mechanism: Mozilla says those values are inserted from the device without being sent to an AI model.

PING suggests checking a generated application against the original record, field by field. A polished sentence can still give the wrong employer, dates or qualification. Select material you are comfortable sharing for this purpose, and leave out a tab that contains unrelated information. Review also means deciding whether the answer describes your own experience accurately; the final submission remains a personal decision.

A page watch needs a clear condition

The second tool looks for a change you describe, such as a price reduction or a matching job listing. Type /watch in Smart Window chat to create a task, add the pages and choose the checking schedule. Mozilla documents up to five pages per task and 15 active tasks. Its launch post describes daily or weekly checks, running only while Firefox is open. This is not a continuously running shopping service. Task controls

Tasks use Qwen to identify relevant changes, regardless of the model selected for chat. Matches appear through the Tasks button; desktop notifications depend on notification settings. The task manager lets you edit, pause or delete a watch. PING has not measured how reliably it detects a price, restock or vacancy, or how quickly a notification arrives.

Write the condition so you can check it yourself later. For a product, that could mean a particular model, capacity and seller, rather than any page containing the words 'sale price'. Treat the alert as a reason to reopen the original listing. Check the currency, delivery destination, shipping charge and final checkout total before deciding whether an apparent reduction is useful. Those are comparison steps, not claims that Firefox verifies a retailer or completes a purchase.

Keep the practical fallback

For a reader outside the announced markets, bookmark the relevant pages and keep checking them through your normal workflow. Do not plan around an unannounced local release date. Even where the beta is available, a daily or weekly check that needs an open browser should not be your only reminder for an application deadline or a brief stock window.

Smart Window is an optional desktop experience. These additions offer two concrete conveniences: turning chosen pages into form suggestions and turning chosen conditions into page watches. Neither removes the need to read the source. Start with a small task whose result you can verify, keep the original information nearby, and retain the final decision. Checked 1 November 2026. The Verge's 27 October report was a discovery signal; the article's factual claims rely on the actual Mozilla primary post, public help and product page. New features are English-language desktop Smart Window beta in the US and Canada; no UK/African release date or local access is asserted. The help page's four-versus-five field threshold and blog/help differences on 90-day task pausing are unresolved; those disputed numbers are omitted. Jina/direct Help returned Client Challenge; public web-tool retrievals succeeded and are retained, without login or challenge bypass. The original 60-second script and four UNSENT copies are plans, not exported or attached video. Cover r2: exact official Smart Window beta SVG faithfully rasterised at 1688×248, centered unchanged on a plain black 1920×1080 background for contrast and clear space.
