XREAL AURA has a $1,279 price. Check who can actually order it
XREAL's latest announcement makes AURA more concrete, but a paid reservation, an order and a delivered device are different things. Here is the documented launch position—and what UK and African buyers should not assume.
XREAL AURA now has a US starting price, but that does not mean every reader can order it today. The company's 7 October announcement distinguishes existing paid reservations from general orders and names four initial shipping markets. That is the important detail to read before treating the launch as a worldwide retail arrival. XREAL's dated announcement
Price, eligibility and delivery are separate checks
- The company announces US prices of $1,279 and $1,499 for two configurations.
- Its first pre-orders are restricted to customers who made qualifying paid reservations before 7 October.
- The initial shipping-market list is the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea; more markets are planned for 2027.
A reservation is not a device in your hands
The issuer release says general orders will open in the coming weeks and describes shipping as coming soon. It does not establish that an unreserved buyer in the UK, Kenya or Nigeria can receive a supported local unit now. Nor should a dollar price be silently converted into a complete local buying cost. Order and rollout conditions
Before placing money with a seller, ask which stage the transaction represents: reservation, pre-order or an in-stock purchase. Keep the written cancellation conditions and the stated delivery window beside the receipt. If a marketplace seller promises an earlier arrival, ask who supplies the unit and who handles a failed delivery or return; this article has not assessed any seller.
Read the whole system, not just the glasses
XREAL describes a wired split-compute design: optical see-through glasses connect to a separate Android XR compute puck. Its release gives the glasses' weight as under 95g and claims a 70-degree field of view. These are manufacturer descriptions, not PING comfort, image-quality or endurance measurements. System description
The practical demonstration should include your own expected use. Can you read the type size you need? Can you reach the controls? Where will the puck and cable sit? If you use prescription lenses, request the exact supported arrangement and its complete price. Do not infer an insert cost, outdoor readability or hours of comfortable wear from promotional images.
Do not compare a launch plan with a prototype as if both are on sale
Meta's September 2024 Orion announcement, updated in September 2025, explicitly describes a product prototype intended for employees and selected external audiences—not a consumer retail device. It is useful background to the industry's direction, but it does not provide a current shop price against which to declare AURA a winner. Dated Orion background
For any demonstration, make a short list of the applications and account features you need rather than accepting an ecosystem label as proof of compatibility. Ask the supplier to show the actual version and regional availability. A menu of possible uses is not evidence that your particular meeting, work or entertainment setup has been tested.
For readers outside the initial four markets
The next useful announcement will be market-specific: ordering access, currency, support, returns and an actual delivery commitment. Until those details are published for your location, keep an import proposal separate from an official local launch. London and African markets are not interchangeable; this guide does not claim that one distributor arrangement applies to all of them.
AURA's announcement advances the buying conversation beyond a concept reveal. The responsible next step is to check whether the ordering route and complete system fit your needs. That is a stronger payoff than calling untested glasses an everyday replacement for a headset—or describing a planned shipment as hardware already delivered.
